My Loyal World Readers

I want you to know everyone that I have not forgotten all of you. It's my intention that I don't give up on anyone and try to carry as many of you as I can forward to all the places that I go from here. You have all been so wonderful about reading my new posts and I can't imagine myself leaving any of my audience behind.

The website I started has grown to excellent numbers of per day visitors. Many of the people who visit my audience do so on a frequent basis. And about half of all of my visitors are brand new people. The thing I hate about the website is that my dashboard won't let me see all the wonderful places that my web traffic is coming from.

On blogger alone, I can see people from about eight other countries than the United States. I am thrilled to be read in other nations and perhaps other languages. I view it as crossing cultural barriers and making new connections to people across the globe. That is one of my favorite aspects of being an author and sharing my thoughts with everyone here.

On Amazon, I am able to see where people are from only if they buy my books. And so far, there haven't been many cash sales. The free promotions have been the best source of delight for me as far as seeing where my stories go when downloaded. I want to reach out and touch even more lives through the characters that I've created and the blogs.

I hope you will all join me at www.erichdavis.com, I am very proud of the reactions this website has been getting, along with all the blogs that are on there as well. Please come by and visit. And if you want to read my stories, remember for only three more days "Trinity and the Sad Child" will be available as a free Kindle download. Get it now before it expires.

All my love and well wishes to you my friends.

Trinity and the Sad Child is available now for free on the Amazon Kindle. I wrote a blog entry about it and a social commentary about current trends facing the United States on my website. My intent was to demonstrate not only cultural sensitivity, but also call out people who are dismissive of the plight of racial injustice or discrimination. Read it now at www.erichdavis.com

My Website

I have splurged a little on myself and bought a domain and established a website for myself. It doesn't look very professional yet, but it's still a work in progress. It contains a lot of my art work, links to my social media, an archive linking users to this blog and also the content from my other blog about the bully from Trinity and the Bully. As well as a link to my books for sale.

I want to invite all of my lovely readers to this site. Please bear in mind that portions of it are still going through a fine tuning process and further updates are coming to polish it off. There will be a blog started on this site as well, but I'll keep posting here as well to help ease the transition over.

I hope you will all join me at my new website. It's the next step on my path as an author and I would love for you to join me there. You've come this far with me, I sincerely hope that you will follow me throughout my adventures with the printed word.

My First Appearance

I am delighted to share with you some exciting and scary news that I have received today. First, the very exciting news is that on the night I went to the poetry reading last month, I sat down and composed my first ever poems. I just wrote three, and I submitted them to SpillWords.com where they have been selected to be published on September the first.

Continuing with the exciting news, I was invited to read these poems at an open mic event in my town of Hobbs, NM. On Saturday, August the sixth I will be reading my first three poems on stage at this event. This is also the scary news because I have horrible stage fright. However, when I began writing I realized that I might have to make public appearances to get the ball rolling for my career as an author.

My three poems have the following titles and meanings behind them.

  1. "Hatred Has No Home with Me:" In the years before the "Black Lives Matter" movement, and while there was still race and hate crime being performed, I wrote this on my Facebook status. As time as gone on, it has become more profound and in need of being addressed urgently. That the human race is the only race and that hatred takes more effort than love.
  2. "Naked for Climate Change:" This one started out as a joke. I was complaining about the heat and the corporations that contribute to the heaviest pollution would probably invest heavily in green energy if I bore my bare naked self at one of their corporate meeting rooms. Poems can use humor too, if it gets the point across. Which I hope that it does.
  3. "Trinity the Troublemaker:" The title of my children's book series. This girl, the character I have created, has brought a lot of joy into my writing. I love to think about the ways in her world of attacking complex problems with childhood simplicity. The poem will be rooted entirely in my first story of "Trinity and the Bully," but it will be a great plug for the series in general.
I'm looking forward to taking part in my first appearance at a public event. Even though I am scared of the stage, I don't tend to avoid much in the way of things that frighten me. I just try my very best to do better and overcome.

New Release and Upcoming Release

Hello loyal readers, and hello any newcomers. Don't want to leave anyone out.

I have released the print version of "Trinity and the Sick Kids" and it is available for purchase. The charity I attempted to contact for an endorsement, declined to support the story. Probably because they have enough endorsements already. I'm not disheartened, it just means I will have to find another charity to represent. Until then, I'm still going to donate the charity portion of the royalties to the charity that turned me down. And I would like to support multiple charities too once I am an established author.

My third story for Trinity the Troublemaker is ready for pre-order on the Amazon Kindle. As usual, I like to release the eBook before I release the print version, especially because the first five days I can do a free promotion for the eBook. I can give you wonderful bloggers and blog readers a chance to read my story and enjoy it.

This new story is my Christmas story for the children of Westrock. It's called "Trinity and the Sad Child." For anyone who doesn't want to click on the link, I'll paste the description.

Christmas is coming to Westrock. The leaves have fallen, the snow covers the town and a little girl named Trinity is shoveling it from the driveways. It's a time for families to celebrate together. However, in December 1950 the Korean War has taken many of the townsfolk to a distant shore. For one young boy, he will never see his father again. David and his mother Mrs. Song receive news that no military family wants to hear, a loss so huge that Trinity and her friends face the biggest challenge of their childhood.

Will the kids be able to restore joy and happiness for the Song family in time to save their Christmas? This is a story for all military service members, veterans, their families, and the memory of those who gave their lives for the country they loved so very much.

I cannot tell you the enormous challenge of finding a way to make a story about losing a family member come out in a positive light for children age readers. I hope that you will download it once it comes out and post a review or send me some feedback about what you thought of the story. Thank you everyone. More news will come as it develops.

The Meaning of H.O.P.E.

In the print volumes of my books about Trinity, I add a message in the acknowledgments. After I mention all the people that my book is geared towards I ask them to "Remember H.O.P.E. is How One Person Endures."

It's not just a trendy little thing to say without a point. Nor is the phrase self-explanatory. So I shall attempt to give a little explanation here so that I won't be thought of as a pointless phrase maker. The books about Trinity are focused around people who are going through difficulties thus far. Such as bullying, severe illnesses, and the grief of losing a member of the family.

I think of times in my life when I have suffered something along those lines. I never felt like I would get over or move past many of those things. Although, I have learned to live and adapt to the curve balls that life throws at me. No one really told me that things would get better, so I just had to deal with it.

Now I think of things like hope. That while I suffer or work for something, that there is a goal set out ahead for me. A desired outcome that I should always try to reach. Because if I did not have this objective set out for me, then I wouldn't try so hard to make it happen. Without that goal or hope, then I would have no reason to keep trying and I would be more likely to give up.

I think the way someone endures through all the hard work and heartache is by fixing themselves on that goal and finding a sound plan to get there. However, how can anyone plan for the end of bullying? Can anyone plan to end an illness or keep your loved ones around forever?

These situations will follow each of us throughout our lives and we honestly don't know for sure how to cope. In this case, I think hope means to have a strong desire to cope with a problem that seems insoluble. Coping is not the end of your problems, it is the ability to adapt. At least in the sense I am writing.

Proactively, we can educate the schools and parents about the problem of bullying. However, instances of bullying are individual. Albeit with a bully attacking several individuals throughout their career as a bully. Do you respond with a show of strength? Compassion? Or just tuck tales and hope the problem goes away?

Trial and error has surely taught us that ignoring a problem is not always going to be the solution. It's a false hope to think that a bully will lose interest if you don't respond somehow. My suggestion in a case of bullying is intervention. I think that a vulnerability in bullying is attention, because bullies like to think they can strut the halls like a king while in fact they thrive in the shadows and the background. I'm advocating for the intervention of parents, school officials, and the victims in sitting down with the bully and explaining the problems that they are causing and the consequences of continuing what they're doing.

Maybe there is a root problem to the individual bully. That child might be a victim of bullying themselves. Doesn't excuse what they do, but that is something to consider. What I don't suggest is fighting, unless you have no choice. Always be ready or able to defend yourself. Just draw the line at "stopping the action."

Illness is another thing to think about with no real clear solution. And I am not talking about a cure, although that would be nice. I think when it comes to an illness or a disability and special needs, that there is a stigma associated where people feel as though they have to walk on eggshells around the individuals living with an affliction. I think the ability to cope is not just for the people who have the condition, I think it is also for the rest of society. Even if there is no cure to the illness, there is a way to keep everyone included somehow. It just takes a little thought and resourcefulness. It is as simple as making the choice to try.

Losing a family member is something that cannot be addressed to a population. It is an individual basis of finding the strength to cope. I think the best approach is to be supportive without being intrusive. Their goal is to adapt to the loss, if ever they can. It's just a matter of being delicate.

Having hope is working towards the desired outcome. It may never feel like you will ever be back to a state of "okay." However, if you believe that you can be okay and can see yourself overcoming the problem to the point where you can cope and continue then it's all a matter of time to get there. I'm not saying to drop it, or buck up. I'm saying that there is a point to your survival, and that hanging in is all you need to do. But don't take just my word for it. If you need help, that is nothing to be ashamed of. Admitting you need help is not a sign of weakness. It is your astute observation that there is something that needs to be done that you may not be able to do alone.

Endure, somehow my friends. Endure. Fix the image of being "okay" or better in your mind and that is the thing to hope for. When you have that image, and that determination of arriving at your goal, you will have a reason to continue trying. That is H.O.P.E.

Announcements

Exciting things are in the works my friends. Wednesday morning, I sent off two proof copies of "Trinity and the Sick Kids" to a charity that I have asked for an endorsement. Fifteen percent of the royalties will be donated to the charity if they choose to permit me to mention in my book that the proceeds will go to benefit them.

I am not looking to advertise with the charity. I'm offering them recurring donations for the permission to place their name on my cover and product description. If they accept my proposal and believe that the story is something they would like their name attached to, then I will be able to say that a part of my platform is the millions of people who benefit from the selected charity.

My skill with my artwork for the children's book covers is improving. Instead of sticking to attempting to draw each object in a single picture, I draw each object separately and then use my computer to insert these objects to scale. It has allowed for some spectacularly clear details that I hadn't been able to otherwise illustrate.

Last night, I attended a poetry reading at a local coffee house. It was so remarkable that I plan on going each time they have the event. As time permits. Poetry is not my strong suit, but it might be something to consider to raise attention to my writing on a local level.

"Trinity and the Sad Child" is currently in the proofreading process and I would like to aim to release it on or around the first weekend in August. Before kids go back to school and while they have time to read for fun.

I hope I will be able to keep the good news rolling. And when I know something, you will too. I want to say thank you to everyone for being such faithful readers. Be safe, and be good to each other.

First Cash Sales

Well friends, I am proud to say that I have made my first cash sales of my first book about "Trinity and the Bully." Five copies to be more precise.

It's a slow start, but it feels like something huge. My little girl Trinity and her friends have been welcomed into the lives of others. They all have something to teach kids and parents. Such as listening and learning from each other, taking responsibility for mistakes, and how a child enabled can turn into such a bully. The sale price in U.S. dollars is $6.99 for which I get $2.04 and $0.15 for each dollar will go to a charity or non-profit that goes to raise awareness and promote solutions to combat bullying.

It may not seem like much, but as I recently heard someone say "change changes lives."

Here's the word hummingbird

Sometimes you have to stop yourself for a moment and take notice of everything that is going on. It feels as though when you get busy and preoccupied, that nothing else is actually in motion. You feel alone and as though you toil for very little return. That is why you have to stop and look around to see what else is in motion, and boy it is all exciting!

First of all, the second book in the "Trinity the Troublemaker" series will end its five day opening free promotion today. So get your copy now so you don't have to pay the $2.99 + tax to read it on your Kindle or Kindle enabled devices. You can find it at the following link: "Trinity and the Sick Kids."

Second, if my social media platforms were like a telephone then it would be ringing off the hook. Which is actually true since I had to disable some of the text messages I was receiving forwarded from my email. My twitter feed @erich_davis has been flooded with support from groups and individuals that have been associated with the bullying and abuse of children as well as the special health care needs for children. Additionally, authors and self-publishing firms have been flooding my feed and inbox.

Third, I'd like to mention my thanks and appreciation to the readers I have seen on my blog. Today a new audience location emerged on my stats board from Russia. In addition to France, Germany, Poland, Singapore, Ireland, and the United States. Although I would not say I am world famous, I certainly feel honored to be read by all who have paid me a visit here. So I would love for you all to know that I say now for all time, thank you. I hope you will each be a part of my journey and that my books can touch your heart in any way possible.

I'm not sure if I have anything else currently going on that can be included, there is so much to catch up on. However, I would like to tell you about things that are being considered by me or in the works for the future.

Representation: I have been actively seeking either a traditional publisher, or a literary agent to bring my books to the wide world of readers. A literary agent will match my works to appropriate venues for sales and marketing. Thus far, I have had to do all of this work myself. Which is a unique challenge that I find fascinating. So far through "word of mouth" or "organic" advertising, my twitter impressions are approximately fifteen thousand (15,000) over the past twenty eight (28) days. However, my books sales as of this moment are at a combined total of forty five (45) downloads between the two titles.

All of those downloads are from the free book promotions I have ran when they are released individually. So far, there are no cash sales. Once there are cash sales, I will be donating a portion of the proceeds to a charity associated with the issues I address in each story. However, the difficulty has been in getting many of these charities to respond to my messages in case they want public affiliation with the stories.

"Trinity and the Bully" is about to come out for release to print with the Amazon service "Create Space." Orders can be processed immediately on Create Space, or on the site for Amazon within the next 3-5 days. The sale price is $6.99 for a print copy and will remain $2.99 for electronic download.

It's an exciting time. I hope to always be able to share good news with the rest of you soon.

New Story is out Tomorrow

"Trinity and the Sick Kids" is going to be released tomorrow on Amazon and Kindle enabled devices. I'm particularly proud of this story because it introduces a whole new family of characters to Westrock, but they aren't new to the neighborhood. In fact, they have been around for several months but why haven't the kids met them before?

This story will address the need for inclusion with children who have special needs and health requirements in activities enjoyed by the community. People often consider a disability as an obstacle. This might be true, but an obstacle is not a dead end. Obstacles are challenges and everyone has to face them.

I invite you to consider the challenges and solutions that I propose in this story. A way of keeping us all in the game.

The Rundown

Here's the rundown on my writing projects:
Two short stories of the "Trinity the Troublemaker" series have been completed. The first one about ‪‎bullying‬ is available now as an eBook. The second one about childhood illness‬ will be released on the first of July, eBook.
The third story titled "Trinity and the Sad Child" is almost finished with the first draft. This one deals with a child's grief over losing a ‪‎parent‬ to war. Once the third story is in publication, I will be including the first three stories in a single collectible volume and it will feature never before seen art and stories from the blog I have written following the events of a character from the first story.
I have a novel that I am continuing to work on, and giving some extensive rewrites to polish it even further. It will focus around the adventures of a World War two soldier and the tale of his capture and escape. However, the escape is only the beginning of an epic as the soldier is compelled to take the war into his own hands.
Now, for an announcement. In addition to the works above, I have decided to tackle the horror‬ genre. It'll deal with a creature of supernatural origin, and the origin is something I will leave as vague. It takes delight in terrorizing others and finding clever ways of forcing friends to turn on each other. More on this later.
I've been contacted by several alleged publishing companies, but they all want an initial payment from me to begin working on my stuff. Something only in the amount of $3,200. I don't even have $3.20 to waste, so I'm going to decline these companies. The genuine articles don't charge you up front, and that is right around my budget.

Coming to Print

I have in my hands a paperback copy of "Trinity the Troublemaker: Trinity and the Bully." It's a sample "proof" copy in which I get to see a bound edition of my short story. As I go through reading it, I make corrections and review it for further errors.

Once that process is complete, and I have finished polishing and finalizing everything the book will be available. In print, and something you can hold in your hands. The smell of fresh paper, the texture of a nice matte cover and the sound of the pages as you flip through them.

There are no illustrations, other than the books cover. The cover art is my own, a nice single picture of Trinity. She's the star and a hero for all ages. Meanwhile, the eBook is still available through Amazon for the Kindle and Kindle enabled devices.

The Continuing Adventures of Trinity the Troublemaker

I have been very busy these past couple of weeks. Not only from marketing the first Trinity story, but also from doing the artwork for the books. And also trying to enlist help from charities that my books are centered around. As well as preparing the next two books for their release.

In the first story, Trinity and the Bully, our young hero faces a bully on three occasions. She makes new friends each time and helps save her school from the menace of the bully. I am so proud of this book, and honored to share that the story was downloaded a total of thirty times during the free promotion that I ran on Amazon. So far there are no paying customers, but I know it takes time to catch things up for a new author.

My second story for Trinity is called, Trinity and the Sick Kids. This is a story which will bring Trinity to meet a new friend that isn't able to join Trinity and the other kids in their football games. Or can she? To find out, you will have to wait for the story to be released on July 1st, 2016. As usual, I will run a free book promotion when it is released so wait until it is marked free before you download it. Also remember, that the Kindle reader app is a free download for desktop, laptop, and tablet computers as well as most smart phones.

My third story is going to focus the attention of the kids from Westrock to a young boy who has lost his father to the Korean war. Perhaps the most difficult topic of any that I have written about so far. Bullying is already a difficult issue with a wide variety of approaches, and origins of the nature of bullying. Including children with special needs and disabilities in activities with other children who don't struggle with those issues was also a rather unique challenge.

How then, on the first Christmas after his father was killed, will Trinity and her friends be able to make it a special and happy one for the boy and his mother? I hope that the story will warm your heart and make you remember to always appreciate your loved ones for all of the days that they are a part of your lives. Nothing is promised, not tomorrow, not the next hour. Telling someone that you love them is something you have to do often because you never know when it could be the last thing you'll ever say to them.

This story that I have named "Trinity and the Sad Child," will be released in August of 2016. Once it is completed, I will also be releasing a special collectors edition of the stories of Trinity that will contain all three of her first stories. In addition, I will include some never before seen artwork of the children of Westrock, as well as the stories following up with the bully from my first story. You can catch him in another blog that I write as he adapts to life after the events of the first story.

Big things are coming, and I am only too happy to be sharing them with the world. I hope my stories will go to help children and parents alike, however I encourage everyone to read them and consider the ideas that I have brought up. If we work together, we can make this world a better place to live for our children in the future.

We need a better world

I hope this blog post finds you well my dear readers. It is with a sad acknowledgment to the victims of the shooting at the Pulse club in Orlando Florida. There is no words I can say to extend my sorrow to those impacted. In addition, I also express profound sympathies for the family of singer Christina Grimmie. We live in a sad world that is marred by inescapable tragedy. It needs to be a better world for future generations.

The world needs heroes. I don't mean superheroes or vigilantes. And I also don't mean we only need to count on our police, firefighters, and armed forces. We need to be the heroes. All of us, and every one of us need to work to promote compassion and a sense of fellowship between each other. It can be done at a small scale, like opening the door for someone or surrendering your seat to an elderly or infirm couple. Or it can also be large movements that attract attention and promote the wellbeing of others. Charity, organizations dedicated to awareness on an issue that causes trouble and needs a remedy.

Whatever it is, large or small, get involved. Do it consistently, and for the reasons of promoting fellowship with your fellow beings. Make it the reason you do something good, and after you do it long enough you will form a habit of kindness towards others. This is not to say that we need to allow others to be dependent on us, oh no. When someone falls down we need to help them up. Help them to their own feet and have genuine concern for their welfare.

This is part of what I am trying to accomplish in my books about "Trinity the Troublemaker." I am trying to paint a picture, using children of a better way of living and treating each other. Showing how problems impact us all and that by working together that we can find a solution. Children are indeed our only hope, because we have a lot of people in society now that use their influence to divide us and create a world where we are safer if we close ourselves off, and we don't care about our neighbor. We destroy the beauty of the world and only to make ourselves wealthy or comfortable.

I am not asking for the world to mindlessly conform to my way of thinking. That is what the people who want to rule over us all want us to do. Free thinking is the enemy to those such people. I am calling for a different brand of unity. We need to realize that not all of us are the same. We have different religious beliefs, different preferences on the way our lives are led, we have the rich and the poor and everyone else in between. Despite all of our differences though, we all have common problems. So let us use our individual talents to create a better world through our treatment of each other and the way we treat our home, the earth.

We must put aside our pride and think outside of our own personal interests. If you need a better reason, think of your own survival. The survival instinct is something that is important to most of us, so what better way to appeal that to show a practical way that cooperation will benefit you?

Who will give you blood if you need it? Who will work to save your home if it is in jeopardy? Who will stand up for your rights when they are being violated? These are but some of the things that you should wonder, if there ever comes a time when it is your survival at risk. However, you cannot wait that long to get involved. Cooperation requires a little bit of good faith. Give, before you get. Earn, before the return.

This is not socialism or communism. I am not advocating for a change in our economy. I am asking for a change in our social interaction that would hopefully one day eliminate tragedies like the ones suffered recently. I ask that we help each other instead of standing idly by, or even worse, do harm to others.

I'm just an author. I want to earn a living by selling my stories. However, I don't want to be so preoccupied with making a living that I forget to live. And our lives would be enormously enhanced if we cooperate, rather than compete. I want the lessons of my stories of Trinity to carry a message to us all about compassion and empathy so that we do not deteriorate into chaos, disappear in the night.

Fighting fire with fire will end up with us all burning in a huge conflagration. There are times when force is appropriate, and that is an option that needs to be left at an incident driven discretion. For the world at large, in the big picture we must come together.

Consider these sources for your thoughts and relate them to the message that I have shared with you.

Doing my own artwork

My reading and vocabulary is definitely at or beyond the college level. However, my art is right around the third grade which is perfect for the target audience of my Trinity series. I never practiced or was raised with art nurtured, although I have taken several attempts to improve on my own.

My second books cover is a hospital building because the topic of my second book will be tackling the issue of including children with special needs or disabilities into activities with children who do not struggle with those obstacles. Trinity is the little blonde girl and the is featured on the cover of my first book. Although she is accident prone, she always makes amends for the trouble she causes.

Colin is the young man in the picture below her. The setting of my stories is centered in the fictional town of Westrock, Virginia in the year nineteen fifty. This is in the days before schools were desegregated, however Westrock is not big enough to justify two elementary schools. Colin is the first victim seen being attacked by the bully from "Trinity and the Bully."

The first three stories of Trinity are going to focus on the topics of bullying, childhood illnesses, and losing a loved one to war. Nineteen fifty was also the beginning of the Korean war. My stories are going to be rich with not only cultural diversity but also conflict and conflict resolution. It's going to be a spectacular adventure and I hope as many people will be able to be a part of it.

The goal of my stories about Trinity is two fold. First, I want to help cultivate an educational source to foster a sense of empathy in children. The trait of empathy is something that does not have to be left up to the experiences of the child alone, but it is also important for parents to guide their children to be understanding of others who are different from them. Second and as equally important, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of these stories will be donated to a charity associated with the topic that the story covers.

These children, although they aren't expertly drawn they are going to do some charitable work for our country and perhaps one day the world itself.

First Published but not the First Written

As of today, my first published work is the first book in a series I have titled "Trinity the Troublemaker." Her adventures are going to center around various topics of concern to children. Things that need to be addressed that may not come to mind. And some things that do come to mind but are difficult to confront. "Trinity and the Bully" is a story focusing on not only the problems that children experience when they encounter bullies, but also a story for the parents who show a blatant disregard for holding their own accountable.

I have stories that will center on difficulties experienced by children with special needs as well as when a child loses a loved one. This series is set in the year nineteen fifty at the beginning of the Korean war, which will serve to play into future stories of Trinity.

As of now, there have been twenty downloaded copies of her adventure with the bully. I consider that a success after five days of running the free promotion. My desire of doing the free promotion on her debut is so my friends could obtain my book without having to pay to read it. I'd feel too funny taking money from my friends, even if it's only $2.99 on Amazon Kindle.

Initially I began her story as an attempt to obtain a writing credit. I have another novel I am saving in my back pocket until I find representation with a publishing agent. However, the more I wrote about this accident prone, caring, loving, flawed, and spirited child the more I began to truly love her and the world I created. Also, the opportunity presented itself that I could accomplish something truly good with each story.

As I release the Trinity the Troublemaker series, and with each topic I address, I shall be donating a portion of the proceeds to a charity associated with the issues I address. Not only will buying the stories help me, but by buying them the reader will also get the satisfaction of having done something to help a charity accomplish something for those in need.

We are living in this world together, and what we do will have repercussions that we may never see or know. Not always will isolation and "minding our own business" prevent negative repercussions. So, if we consider the wellbeing of our communities, neighborhood, the country, and our very planet as our business and we make strides to make a positive change we can create a resonance of cooperation. Please, let it be so.
